“This will give ThIMo another state-of-the-art research facility for the development and optimization of energy-efficient drives,” says Professor Klaus Augsburg, ThIMo spokesman and Vice Rector for the Sciences at Ilmenau University of Technology.
ThIMo was founded at the university in 2011 in order to forge ahead with research and development in the area of sustainable mobility. Experts representing up to 30 specialties are working alongside partners from the industry in the university’s largest research project, to develop environmentally friendly vehicle concepts that use fewer resources. LEG manages the construction of the new 1,500 square meter building for the university which is scheduled to be completed by the beginning of 2015.
The five test benches for engines and turbo chargers that will form the heart of the new facility will be used mainly by a team of researchers led by Professor Werner Eißler, who holds the research professorship sponsored by IHI Charging Systems International. “We’re delighted that this building will create the right environment for scientists like Werner Eißler to have the very best situation in which to develop sustainable drive concepts,” says LEG Chairman of the Board Andreas Krey.
