Thuringia is on track to meet the national goal of 80 percent renewable electricity by 2030. According to the Statistical Office of Thuringia, renewable energy accounted for 63.9 percent of total electricity consumed in the first quarter of 2024. This corresponds to 1,956.2 gigawatt hours (GWh) and represents an increase of 12.6 percent compared to the previous year. Most of this (66.5 percent) was wind power, but biomass and photovoltaic power also increased. In Germany, the share was 58 percent in the first half of 2024, according to projections by the Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research Baden-Württemberg (ZSW) and the German Association of Energy and Water Industries (BDEW).
