Otto Dix is a great son of Gera, having been born in the Eastern Thuringian town in 1891. He is one of the most famous painters and graphic artists of the 20th century, with work spanning from the Holy Roman Empire to the post-WWII period. Gera has chosen a prestigious location to honor the artist: the late baroque Orangerie, a storied building located in the heart of the city. The permanent exhibition was designed by the director of Klassik Stiftung Weimar, Ulrike Lorenz. The original paintings are complemented by installations using light, film and immersions, enabling visitors to experience the art created by the painter and graphic artist in a variety of ways. The show includes loans from the Niescher Collection and the Otto Dix Foundation, which was established in Vaduz in 1983 by the artist's widow, Martha Dix, and has been very supportive of this elegant solution.
