Meiningen will host many of the events, but Eisenach, Altenburg and Weimar are also involved, as there will be many concerts, lectures and exhibitions to choose from. The project is a cooperation between 12 partners including a savings bank cultural fund, museums, universities, churches, tourism associations and the state of Thuringia itself. The theaters and orchestras of Meiningen-Eisenach, Gera-Altenburg and Sondershausen will perform. Thuringia’s Minister of Culture, Christoph Matschie, explains that the event follows on from the bicentennial of the composer’s birth in Hungary: “Franz Liszt is a figurehead for Thuringia’s wonderful musical heritage and a tourism magnet, as the Liszt Year in 2011 showed. Our Liszt Biennale will add another interesting facet to the cultural richness of our state.” (gro)
