Canadian IT specialist CGI opened a new testing center in Erfurt at the end of November, boosting its capacity to supply IT and managed services. The choice of Erfurt puts the Canadians in good company: 15 other IT companies have been drawn to the state capital since 1997, among them IBM, which now employs around 1,000 locals.
CGI, the world’s fifth-largest IT service provider, specializes in testing software for the public sector and industrial clients. To begin with in Erfurt it will have a staff of 50, but thanks to a steady flow of contracts it intends to increase that number to 100 by next year. Eventually, it wants to employ up to 300 IT specialists in Thuringia. (gro)
