UNESCO has singled out Thuringia four times for its impressive cultural heritage in the form of the Wartburg castle near Eisenach, classical Weimar city itself and the Bauhaus centers of Weimar and Dessau and its natural heritage in the form of the Hainich forested hill chain and national park. With so many impressive features on offer, there is a multitude of discovery tours and special events planned for the year. While the city of Weimar, with its 13 world cultural heritage sites, provides an insight into classic literature and the beginnings of the Bauhaus movement, Wartburg, with an almost 1,000-year-long history, is one of Germany’s best-preserved castles. The natural heritage sites in Hainich National Park and the biosphere reserves in Vessertal-Thüringer Wald and Röhn will have people lost for words, thrilled by the opportunity to peer into the long-lost past and eager to walk, hike or just linger a while and rest.
